The Way of Daisies

I see Her everywhere; in daisy fields
She sets His tender feet along the way.
Although She fears, Her faithful guidance yields
To greater plans. She sends Him to obey.

I wanted to paint the Blessed Mother in a background of daisies, and when I think of daisies I think of bare feet. Daisies convey innocence, the spring season, and fresh new life. In the daisy setting I painted two sets of bare feet. One set belongs to the Blessed Mother, the other to the infant Christ. The feet of the Christ child are marked with heart shaped wounds that foreshadow his sacrifice of love on the cross. His mother is guiding Him toward the way of the cross, formed by the pink daisies. In this painting, as in others, I want the viewer to consider that the faithful sacrifice of the holy parent is as profound as that of the holy child.
