I see Her everywhere; in drifting snow
She calms the winter winds that rage and billow.
With lullabies of grace so sweet and low
She charms the gales and gusts into His pillow.
This painting is somewhat of a contradiction to the series. It is the only piece that does not juxtapose the Blessed Mother against a living element of nature. It also does double duty as a Christmas card. Not surprisingly, I painted Madonna of the Snowfall in the winter when I looked out the window every day to see banks of drifting snow against the house. I don’t enjoy snow because it’s cold and obscures the living things in my garden, but I wanted to show in the painting that even something that chills and kills can become the very essence of warmth and comfort under the influence of Her touch.

My name is Kate Duffy Sim. I’m a retired educator, wife and mother, and life-long resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, where I’m a parishioner at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. I’m also a devoted follower of Our Lady. She is known by many names: Blessed Mother, Madonna, and the Virgin Mary are only a few. But to me she is first and foremost my Mother. Her love, compassion, and guidance bless my life daily, and all that I have comes through Her grace.
